Outpatient Drug Rehabs are for people that have a strong support system at home, and are confident that they can get sober and stay sober without an Inpatient Drug Rehab Program.

Outpatient programs have a lower success rate if the person attending the program is subjected to temptation at home, work or by friends in their normal daily routine. I.O.P. is usually suggested for mild cases of addiction or when the addiction is caught in the early stages, usually within the first couple of years.

Most people in advanced stages of addiction try to use outpatient instead of Inpatient drug programs because they have not "committed" to recovery and they feel that outpatient treatment will give them the flexibility to continue to use drug and/or alcohol while attending treatment. If the person is very far advanced in their addition it is almost always better to enter an Inpatient treatment program, at least for the first 30 days, then transition into an outpatient program after a period of time in the an Inpatient setting.
